Terms of Service
The rules that apply when you register for and use the MEWAKA website or mobile application.
These terms govern access to MEWAKA (TCPD), a continuous professional development platform operated by the Tanzania Institute of Education. They apply to the website, mobile application, learning content, communication features, assessments, and certificates.
Acceptance of the terms
By creating an account, signing in, or continuing to use MEWAKA, you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the authenticated service.
The Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines form part of these terms. They explain how personal information is handled and the conduct required in collaborative areas.
Purpose and intended users
MEWAKA provides professional learning, course participation, assessments, progress tracking, collaboration, support, and certification for Tanzania's education community.
The platform serves teachers, pre-service teachers, college tutors, education officers, educationalists, researchers, education stakeholders, and other users authorised by TIE. Features and required profile information may differ by user type.
Account registration and security
When registering or maintaining an account, you must:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete identity and professional information.
- Keep your password, verification codes, and authenticated device access confidential.
- Use only your own account and avoid transferring or sharing it with another person.
- Notify TIE promptly if you believe your account or device has been compromised.
Acceptable use
You must use MEWAKA for lawful education and professional-development purposes. You must not:
- Attempt to access another account, restricted content, server, API, or administrative function without permission.
- Introduce malicious code, overload the service, bypass security, or interfere with platform operation.
- Impersonate another person, falsify profile information, attendance, progress, assessment work, or certificate records.
- Post unlawful, abusive, discriminatory, threatening, misleading, or privacy-infringing content.
- Copy, distribute, sell, or commercially exploit protected learning material without permission.
Courses, enrolment, and assessments
Course access may depend on your role, institution, enrolment status, enrolment key, prerequisites, completion rules, or a course schedule. You are responsible for following the instructions shown in each course.
Quiz, assignment, and assessment work must be your own unless collaboration is expressly allowed. Attempts, grades, completion, deadlines, and availability are determined by the course configuration and authorised facilitators.
TIE or an authorised administrator may add, change, suspend, or close courses and enrolments to meet programme, quality, security, or operational needs.
Programme applications and examination verification
When applying for an upgrade or other programme, you must provide accurate names, contact and professional details, current school and subjects taught, select the intended college, and answer all required programme questions.
By requesting examination verification, you authorise MEWAKA to send the entered index information and first name to NECTA and retrieve the corresponding result. You must review the displayed particulars and confirm only a record that belongs to you. An optional Form Four number is checked only when supplied; a required education examination number must be verified before submission.
Any approval letter, teaching certificate, image, PDF, or other document you submit must be genuine, current where required, readable, and yours or lawfully provided for the application. TIE may request clarification, replacement, or resubmission.
Submitting or verifying an application does not guarantee admission, placement, enrolment, or certification. Authorised reviewers may approve, reject, return, or reassess it under programme requirements. You may contact TIE to challenge an apparent data or verification error.
Progress records and certificates
Progress indicators are informational and depend on configured completion criteria. A certificate is issued only when the applicable requirements are satisfied and the platform records the required completion.
Certificates and learning records must not be altered, forged, misrepresented, or used by another person. TIE may verify, correct, withdraw, or reissue a record where an error, misuse, or invalid completion is identified.
Your posts, files, and feedback
You remain responsible for content you submit. You must have the right to share it and must not disclose another person's confidential or personal information without lawful authority.
Forums, replies, and other collaborative content must follow the Community Guidelines. Users may report content or block another participant, and TIE may review, restrict, or remove content and accounts where reasonably necessary for safety or compliance.
You permit TIE to store, display, process, and reproduce submitted content only as reasonably needed to operate MEWAKA, deliver the relevant course, provide support, maintain records, and comply with law. Feedback marked anonymous is not displayed with your name, although ordinary security logs may still be generated.
Learning content and intellectual property
MEWAKA software, branding, course materials, images, videos, assessments, and other content belong to TIE or the identified rights holder and are protected by applicable intellectual-property law.
You may view and use content for authorised personal professional learning. Downloading a file does not transfer ownership or grant permission to republish, modify, sell, or distribute it unless the content licence expressly allows that use.
External links and services
Some courses may link to YouTube, documents, websites, or services operated by others. Their availability, content, privacy practices, and terms are controlled by those providers. A link does not transfer responsibility for an external service to TIE.
Availability and changes to the service
TIE aims to keep MEWAKA reliable but does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. Maintenance, connectivity, device limitations, security events, or circumstances beyond reasonable control may interrupt or change the service.
You are responsible for a compatible device, internet access, lawful software, and any connectivity charges required to use the website or mobile application.
Suspension, termination, and account deletion
TIE may restrict, suspend, or terminate access where an account threatens security, violates these terms, contains materially false information, infringes rights, or must be restricted by an authorised education or legal decision. Where appropriate, the user may be asked to correct the issue.
You may request deletion from the app or the public account deletion page. Ending access or deleting an account does not automatically erase learning, audit, assessment, or certificate records that TIE is required or permitted to retain.
Accuracy and responsibility
MEWAKA supports professional learning and does not replace official directives, professional judgement, or requirements issued by competent education authorities. Users should verify decisions that carry formal consequences with the responsible authority.
To the extent permitted by Tanzanian law, TIE is not responsible for loss caused solely by an external service, an unsupported device, unauthorised account use, user misconduct, or events outside TIE's reasonable control. Nothing in these terms excludes a responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Questions or complaints should first be sent to TIE using the contacts below so they can be reviewed and resolved. A person may also use any complaint or remedy available under applicable Tanzanian law.
Changes to these terms
TIE may update these terms when the platform, programme, or legal requirements change. The latest version will be published on the website and in the app. Continued use after notice of a material update means the revised terms apply from their stated effective date.
Contact and questions
Contact TIE if you have a privacy request, a question about these terms, or need help with your MEWAKA account.
